We are looking for someone who can join our documentation team. These documents are designed to be used by our customers to help them use our product and range from technical to how-to. Previous experience with developing and delivering an online documentation system is a must. We need expertise in how to write documents (best structure, type, etc), how to deliver documents, and how to maintain documents that are written for a rapidly evolving product (keeping up with new versions while not orphaning old versions), along with keen technology abilities. We have a large amount of existing documentation that will need to be better organized and improved as well as new documents written to fill gaps we currently have and to explain new features as they are developed.
Independently gather information, interview subject matter experts, and conduct other research to convey technical material in a concise and effective manner.
Plan, develop, organize, write, and edit operational procedures and manuals.
Research, develop, and document technical design specifications and test scripts.
Produce electronic documentation in addition to hard copy manuals.
Maintain a comprehensive library of technical terminology and documentation.
Analyze documents to maintain continuity of the style of content.
Manage updates and revisions to technical literature.
Write easy-to-understand user interface text, online help, and developer guides.
Bachelor’s Degree; preferably in English, Communication, Journalism, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Writing, Teaching, Curriculum Development or Scientific Publication, or the equivalent in professional experience.
Prior technical development experience with programming languages, knowledge of SQL database or relational database skills, C#, CSS, SQL Server, Java, Oracle, etc.
Proven working experience in technical writing of software documentation.
Ability to deliver high-quality documentation paying attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and pictures.
Must be able to set goals, prioritize multiple objectives with various deadlines, and independently manage documentation projects.
Work with Project Managers and Project Engineers.
Ability to write in explanatory and procedural styles for multiple audiences.
Practical technology aptitude to understand software, process automation, and general operation of programing being documented.
Familiarity with SDLC and software development.
Job Location: Chesapeake, VA (temporary remote option only due to COVID-19, the position is based out of Chesapeake, VA with no remote options once we return to work)
